NZ Super appoints acting CIO

The Guardians of Kiwi sovereign fund NZ Super has appointed Alex Bacchus as acting chief investment officer amid Stephen Gilmore’s departure to Calpers.

Gilmore leaves the Guardians this month to take up the role of CIO at CalPERS, the largest pension plan in the United States.

Bacchus joined the Guardians in 2009 and held various positions in the risk and asset allocation teams. Since 2014, he has led NZ Super’s strategic tilting programme, a mean reversion investment strategy.

The fund will begin searching for a permanent CIO shortly.
