Teams from Deakin University have taken first and second place in AMP’s 2024 University Challenge.
Winners Jack Weiland, Jordan Bertucci and Ryan Auwardt made up one of eight finalist teams. Muyeang Seng and Christian Mahon came second, while John McMahon from TAFE NSW was third.
Now in its 14th year, AMP’s University Challenge is an annual national financial planning competition for university students.
This year’s event, held in Melbourne, aimed to identify new talent and promote high standards of education and professionalism among the next generation of advisers.
The finalists were tested on their technical knowledge and had to complete a mock advice interview with clients as well as a presentation on how advisers can position themselves to make the most of the intergenerational wealth transfer.
Up to $6000 prize money was on offer with the winning team taking home $3000.
The finalists were also given the opportunity to speak with senior advice professionals and financial planning academics.
The judges for AMP’s University Challenge for 2024 were:
- Hanmoore Financial Solutions general manager and director Mathew Gale
- MLC Life Insurance education manager Marshall Ross
- Financial Advice Association policy general manager Phil Anderson
- More than 6000 students from 21 universities across Australia have participated in the Challenge since it first began in 2011, with many going on to join the financial advice profession.
