The Financial Planning Association (FPA) hopes the spirit of New Year’s resolution remains with Australians this week as it launches an inaugural “Ask an Expert Week”.

The national event is a week-long initiative, starting today, which aims to improve access to financial advice.

FPA chief executive, Mark Rantall, believes that January is a great time for Australians to review their finances.

“For many of us, the New Year is a time to make positive changes to important parts of our lives. Alongside our families and health, wealth is very important to our overall wellbeing,” he said.

“Therefore, Ask an Expert Week was set up to encourage Australians to improve their financial situation and support them in doing so. Through the website and Twitter, qualified financial planners are on hand to provide advice on those financial questions.”

The FPA says previous financial planning-week initiatives have generated growth in the number of consumers interested in trying out financial advice.

Ask an Expert Week has been added to provide a safe forum for people to take the next step.

“There are various reasons people do not seek advice on their finances,” said Rantall.

“Some feel that financial advice is something that only high net-worth individuals can access, others are simply not aware of the value advice can add and some just don’t know where to look.”

During Ask an Expert Week, there are two main options available to consumers: the online forum and Twitter, where questions should be sent to @AustraliaFPA using #AskanExpert.

In related news, the FPA has announced the results of elections held last November and welcome 13 new Chapter Chairs to its ranks alongside 19 returning Chapter Chairs.

The FPA’s 32 Chapters operate throughout capital cities and major regional centres nationally.
