AMP’s Helmich on FoFA, recruitment

Steve Helmich, AMP director of financial planning, advice and services says he has never seen the mood more positive amongst AMP’s financial planners.

“We don’t have too many who are grizzled and cynical and I spend a lot of time talking to planners in the field,” he told PPO.

“In a large licensee you always have a range and I’m not going to tell you that everyone has the same rosy view but we’ve just spent a lot of time with our leading planners and I’ve never seen the mood more positive towards AMP and what we’re doing.”

While Helmich says AMP has measured itself against the Financial Planning Association’s code, the issue of professional codes being approved within the Future of Financial Advice (FoFA) reforms remains a key issue for him.

“The FPA has had its code out for a while now but I don’t think it’s had the bite that it will have once it’s approved by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC),” he says.
