Lane on accountants and Count’s network

Count CEO David Lane gives his views on the opportunities potentially created by the scrapping of the accountant’s exemption and how he was “adopted” at the dealer group’s annual conference last month.

In the second installment of his video interview for Professional Planner Online’s Dealer Group series, Lane says the imminent demise of the accountant’s exemption provided a great opportunity for Count to assist practices over the transition period.

“We are going to put in place a licensing regime for any of the accountants out there looking for help,” he revealed. “In my opinion, the one area of growth in terms of financial advice will come from the accounting side. We are very well placed for that.”

While Lane had visited 60 or 70 member firms prior to the Count Conference in Brisbane, he says he was unprepared for the full scale of the business.

“What was fascinating for me was to viscerally experience the power of the network and to be in a location with 850 people all associated with Count,” says Lane.

“I felt like I was adopted by the network and taken on that ride.”
