The SMSF Professionals’ Association of Australia (SPAA) chief executive Andrea Slattery has been appointed to the board of the association and will take the title of managing director.
Her appointment was ratified at SPAA’s last board meeting.
The decision marks a return to the board for Slattery, one of the founders of SPAA who was a board director for the first three years after the organisation was established in January 2003.
“Andrea has been a magnificent contributor to SPAA as a founder and CEO, and the board now firmly believes the time is right to appoint her as an executive director,” said SPAA chairman Andrew Hamilton.
“The SMSF sector faces many challenges going forward and this measure will allow the CEO and the board to provide genuine strategic direction, and encourages all board members to be strategically focused.”
Slattery said she was “honoured and delighted” to be back on the SPAA board.
“Good governance now requires the chief executive to be on the board to ensure there is joint ownership of the strategy between the directors and the senior management,” she said.
“So it is an opportune time to join the board, especially at a time when there are myriad changes happening in our industry, to focus on nurturing SPAA’s vision and continue to develop best practice for the SMSF sector.”
