Micro-investing app Acorns has launched a new feature enabling users to make voluntary contributions to qualifying superannuation funds, directly from their Acorns account.

REST Industry Super (REST), one of Australia’s largest funds by membership, has entered into an exclusive partnership with Acorns which gives REST members six months of fee-free use of Acorns’ services by registering their REST super fund for voluntary contributions in the app.

Managing Director of Acorns Grow Australia, George Lucas, said the new functionality is a natural progression given the company’s philosophy of making it easier for Australians to save by encouraging small, regular investments.

“The new feature has been developed in response to our customers’ requests to have the option to contribute their super.   Our research revealed that most Acorns users were only reminded about topping up their super towards end of the financial year, and they often did not have as much money available to contribute to their super fund as they would like.

“The new functionality gets around this problem by allowing Acorns users to quickly and easily add to their super funds, when it best suits them, with a simple swipe on their smartphone.”

Eligible Acorns users can also take advantage of the government’s co-contribution when making additional top-ups to help them further boost their retirement savings.

REST’s Mary Atley, General Manager, Brand, Marketing  and Communications, said the partnership with Acorns was a perfect fit as both organisations share a vision of improving the financial literacy of Australians, and in the importance of saving and investing from an early age to improve financial wellbeing now and in years to come.

“REST strongly believes in the importance of preparing for retirement from an early age.  Making regular, additional voluntary contributions will have a significant benefit in later years, particularly if people make the most of initiatives such as the government’s co-contribution where applicable”.

“The beauty of voluntary contributing to REST via the Acorns app is that the technology makes investing for your financial future easier than ever.”
