At the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA)’s 2015 National Adviser Conference in Cairns (the AFA Conference) last month, the AFA community raised $109,000 for the AFA Foundation.

AFA CEO, Brad Fox, said the AFA community continues to prove their generosity and commitment to helping those in need year on year. “It’s great to see that our members and our partners remain so committed to helping people who really need our help. It speaks to the very heart of who we are as a community.”

AFA Foundation Chair, Pina Sciarrone thanked the AFA membership and partners for their work in supporting the AFA Foundation. “I know that AFA members will be heartened to hear that many Australian charities, and therefore many Australians, have benefited and will continue to benefit from their amazing generosity.”

The charities chosen for this year’s AFA Conference included Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia (RMHC), Make-A-Wish, The Black Dog Institute and Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia.

The importance of the AFA Foundation was brought to life on the opening night of the AFA Conference, via Lisa Hurst and her son Lachlan, who was born with a critical medical condition and are beneficiaries of Ronald McDonald House support. Lisa shared their story and talked about the huge difference RMHC made not only to them, but also to many other struggling Australian families.

“At the start of the AFA Conference l reminded everyone that the AFA Foundation’s purpose is to simply ‘make a difference in people’s lives’ and that is exactly what we have achieved,” Ms Sciarrone said. “As a professional community we should be very proud of who we are and what we do.”

So far this financial year the AFA Foundation has received over $160,000 in contributions.
