Shaw and Partners today announced four new adviser appointments in Adelaide and Melbourne and the commencement of its new Victorian State Manager.
Malcolm Cameron, who was most recently the Victorian State Manager for Macquarie Private Wealth, has commenced his role as Shaw and Partners’ Victorian State Manager. He has also taken an equity stake in the business and has been appointed as a partner.
Mr Cameron is a highly respected financial services practitioner and was a Macquarie Group Limited Executive Director who had been with the company since 1995. He said that after more than 20 years working with large advice firms, he wanted to make the move to a high-end, high- touch, boutique firm that advice clients had consistently said they were looking for.
“I am really excited about the direction that Shaw and Partners is taking,” Mr Cameron said. “Shaw and Partners has established itself as a business with expertise in both domestic and international equities/funds, research, cash business and funds platforms. These are all of the highest quality and the business is ensuring that its clients have access to the best quality advisers. The recognised and demonstrated focus on compliance, client service and an independent/non-aligned business model was a major attraction for me,” Mr Cameron said.
He said the opportunity to once again work with Shaw and Partners’ Board Member and Head of Private Wealth, Earl Evans, was also a major attraction.
Senior adviser, Anthony Nicholson, will join Mr Cameron in the Melbourne office. Anthony has a long history as a fee-based holistic adviser who provides tailored services to high net-worth families in Victoria. Anthony is highly respected in the industry and most recently worked with Macquarie Private Wealth.
Shaw and Partners also announced three new advisers, Michael King, David Dall and Matthew Boase, would join its new Adelaide office once their obligations to their previous employer are complete. The Adelaide office opened in May, rounding out Shaw and Partners’ national footprint. The three advisers join Shaw and Partners from the Macquarie Private Wealth business in Adelaide.
Michael King and David Dall have both been in the industry for the past 18 years, all of which were spent at Macquarie, which they joined after graduating from the University of South Australia. They are both highly experienced in providing income and growth focused strategies and are recognised as being among the top practitioners in the Adelaide market place.
Matthew Boase has a graduate diploma of Financial Planning and has 16 years’ experience in the wealth industry with Macquarie Private Wealth. He also graduated from the University of South Australia. Like Michael and David, he is highly regarded by his clients and colleagues for his level and quality of advice.
The three Adelaide advisers are highly respected in the Adelaide community. They chose Shaw and Partners following significant due diligence, during which they saw the trend from large bulge bracket firms to high-end, high-touch boutique firms was a better environment to more effectively advise their clients.
The quality of Shaw and Partners’ research, the general platform of the business and the flat management structure – which ensures high personal engagement with senior executives – was a major attraction for the new appointments.
Michael King said: “The non-bureaucratic, flat structure of Shaw and Partners and the company’s high focus on clients was a major attraction for all of us.”
Earl Evans said many of the people approaching Shaw and Partners were impressed with the emphasis the business places on its individual clients, its overall client service as well as the highly accessible flat management structure.
“During the past six to 12 months we have been reshaping our advice business and evolving into a high-end, high-touch boutique business of choice for clients, advisers and staff alike,” he said.
“Shaw and Partners are also ensuring we have a high engagement with our communities and in order to facilitate this we have recently established the Shaw and Partners Foundation, a philanthropic foundation that involves our staff and our clients in our extensive charitable fundraising events.
“During a recent exclusive client event at Catalina in Sydney our staff and clients raised a significant amount for the White Ribbon organisation which is the first male-led campaign towards raising awareness of what we all can do to stop domestic violence against women and children in Australia.
“We are planning more exclusive charity events in the coming months and this focus on philanthropy and community involvement is a major attraction for advisers, giving them the ability to give back to the community they work in.”
Shaw and Partners CEO Allan Zion said he was thrilled with the quality of the five new appointments who have joined the company: “They represent the solid and high quality direction that we are taking the business,” he said.
“Shaw and Partners’ institutional and corporate operations are continuing to attract quality new business. In the retail side of the business clients have entrusted us with almost $10 billion and this continues to grow,” Mr Zion said.
