T. Rowe Price pursues growth plan with Melbourne office, expanded team

T. Rowe Price has rolled out a key part of its Australian growth strategy with the opening of its Melbourne office, enabling closer working relationships with new and existing clients in the critically important Melbourne institutional market for the global asset manager.

The Melbourne expansion follows the firm’s strategic appointment of David Frazer last year as Institutional Relationship Manager, responsible for driving T. Rowe Price’s institutional business and reinforcing the firm’s bespoke investment solutions capability.

Another critical market for T. Rowe Price is the objectives focused adviser-directed segment, for which it has appointed Business Development Manager Heath Branigan to service Victorian, Tasmanian and West Australian clients.

Branigan will relocate to Melbourne from Sydney for his new role, leaving his former responsibilities to Jonathan Ross who has joined as Business Development Manager having worked in similar roles at MLC and nabinvest. Ross will oversee New South Wales and Queensland adviser-directed markets from Sydney.

Murray Brewer, T. Rowe Price Head of Relationship Management in Australia and New Zealand, said the expanded operation and team reflects the firm’s commitment to the critical Melbourne market and its ability to help achieve client objectives with bespoke equities and fixed income solutions.

“We are very fortunate to have such a highly talented and experienced team of people, each well regarded for the skill, expertise and value they bring to the portfolio consideration and construction process of our clients,” Mr Brewer said.

“David Frazer is among Australia’s most insightful and experienced investment professionals who deeply understands the nuances of investing across different asset classes and strategies,” he said.

“We are delighted that Heath will be joining David in Melbourne after three very successful years growing our business for adviser-directed clients, and we warmly welcome Jonathan as we embark on this exciting time of growth.”

Mr Brewer said 2014 was a successful year for T. Rowe Price in Australia, with inflows into a diverse range of T. Rowe Price capabilities including global, Australian, Asia ex-Japan and emerging market equities, and global fixed income.
