The Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) has appointed David Sharpe CFP of Globe Financial Planning as the new Chair of the Western Australian Chapter of the Financial Planning Association.
Mr Sharpe, who takes over from Mr Randall Stout CFP, says his appointment comes at a time when many in the community may be confused over the Future of Financial Advice (FoFA) reforms. He has vowed to inform the community about the financial planning reforms as well as support the role the FPA in ensuring consumers have access to quality advice from a highly qualified financial planner.
“The WA Chapter of the FPA has been blessed to have great leadership over several years. Under Randall’s stewardship, the Chapter has been able to build on the successful member engagement events and continue to form healthy relationships with the broader public via media, something we value deeply.
“A strong focus for the Chapter under my leadership is to get the message out to the wider community in Western Australia of what financial planning really is and the benefits for clients in seeking out a high quality financial planner.
“Some of the outcomes and commentary surrounding FoFA may seem more political in nature to the public, which has left the situation regretfully uncertain for both financial planners and clients. I will seek to ensure the community is well informed on these matters,” Mr Sharpe said.
Mark Rantall, CEO of FPA, said the FPA is excited to welcome David as the new WA Chapter Chair, thanking the previous Chair Randall for his hard work during his time as Chair.
“With over 10,000 members nationally, our Chapters are a way for our members to connect with the FPA, their peers and the financial planning community. The Chapter Chair plays a vital role in driving activity and ensuring members within each Chapter feel supported and engaged.”
The FPA has 32 Chapters that operate in the capital cities and major regional centres throughout Australia. Each Chapter is run by an elected committee of FPA members and headed up by a local Chapter Chair, who is responsible for organising and promoting member activities, in particular professional development meetings and workshops at a local level.
Mr Sharpe has commenced his Chairmanship.
