Dr Tony Rumble’s ASX Listed Products Accreditation Course (LPAC) has selected Bell Potter as a preferred research provider for its 2000 financial adviser clients, and to present the keynote address at this year’s LPAC Leaders Retreat. The LPAC Leaders Retreat is themed “Staying Ahead of the Pack” and focuses on how SMSF advisers can expand their direct investing offering to acquire and retain valuable SMSF clients.
“Over the last decade we’ve seen direct investing move from something only used by a small number of advisers, to now being right in the mainstream,” said Tony Rumble.
“In the early 2000’s our students were mainly boutique advisers, and they were out on a limb with business systems that weren’t in synch with direct share investing,” Rumble said.
“Now we’re working with advisers from all of the big dealer groups and we’ve seen some amazing talent coming through,” said Tony Rumble.
“Model share portfolios are a key way that advisers can use direct shares in a scalable fashion” commented Bell Potter’s Head of Intermediary Services, Mike Williams.
“This approach can add value to the clients’ portfolios as well as differentiating the adviser from many stockbrokers, who typically recommend much higher turnover in share portfolios than we do,” said Williams.
“We often see advisers with direct share offerings that focus on the top 100 stocks, but we’re also seeing demand for models using small caps and hybrids,” Williams said.
“This helps advisers add diversification as well as meeting the needs of their SMSF clients, who are becoming more sophisticated in their investment needs,” Williams said.
“As more advisers move into the direct investing space, good advisers are expanding the range of direct investments they work with,” LPAC’s Rumble said.
“Since 2003 we’ve trained over 2000 financial advisers to use ASX Listed Products, and the pace at which this is growing is a clear sign that financial advisers are up-skilling, and deepening their education around investing,” Rumble said.
“The best managed funds will always have a role but SMSF advisers are increasingly aware of their clients’ needs for a lower cost and more tax efficient approach,” Rumble said.
The LPAC Leaders Retreat is being held on November 13th to 16th 2014 at the Fiji Intercontinental Resort: http://www.lpaconline.com.au/lpac-leaders
