The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) has released two exposure drafts for comment in relation to the requirements for:
– a course in Australian taxation law that is approved by the Board for tax (financial) advisers
– a course in commercial law that is approved by the Board for tax (financial) advisers
The exposure drafts set out the preliminary views of the TPB and aim to assist relevant institutions and the wider community to understand the TPB’s proposed approach to the qualification requirements for registration as a tax (financial) adviser.
These two Board approved courses form part of the qualification requirements for individuals seeking registration as a (tax) financial adviser under the ‘standard registration option’, which commences on 1 January 2016. The full qualification requirements for registration as a tax (financial) adviser are contained in Schedule 2 of the Tax Agent Services Regulations 2009.
The exposure drafts include information regarding the proposed requirements such as topics and learning outcomes, duration, course providers, education level, manner of delivery and assessment.
Submissions on the exposure drafts close on 19 September 2014 and can be sent to tpbsubmissions@tpb.gov.au. All submissions will be reviewed and considered before the draft documents are finalised and published on the TPB website.
