Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. (FPSB), owner of the international CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification program, named Sanjay Sachdev, CFP, chairperson-elect of its Board of Directors. Sachdev will serve as 2014 chairperson of the FPSB Council, an advisory body of the FPSB Board, before assuming duties as Board chairperson in 2015. The FPSB Board elected Sachdev to the position following the resignation of Barry Horner, CFP, who was unable to complete his term for health reasons.
“Sanjay is a CFP professional who has played an instrumental role in growing the financial planning profession and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification in India, and who is now contributing to the profession’s growth globally,” said Steve Helmich, FPSB Board Chairperson. “As the founding chairperson of FPSB India, Sanjay brings a wealth of experience and deep knowledge of the issues affecting financial planners in developing markets.
“The Board is grateful to Barry Horner for his service on the FPSB Board over the past two years, and we’re confident that Sanjay will lead FPSB with an equal level of enthusiasm and insight,” said Helmich.
With 25 years of international business experience in India, Indonesia, South Africa and the U.S., Sachdev is chairman of Zyfin Capital Advisors, an investment firm focused on investments in the Middle East, India and ASEAN. He was previously president and CEO of Tata Asset Management, India, and has been involved in the development of strategic alliances and public-private partnerships with various agencies, including government and financial regulators. In addition to his role as founding chairperson of FPSB India, Sachdev served as a member of the Securities and Exchange Board of India advisory board. He holds degrees in business and law from the University of Bombay, a master’s in international business management from the American Graduate School of International Management, and a certificate in corporate governance from the Wharton School of Business.
“I’m proud of the work FPSB has undertaken to advance the financial planning profession around the world, and am honored to play a role in leading the organization at a time when financial planning is increasingly proving its value to members of the public seeking control of their financial futures,” said Sachdev.
Sachdev is one of nine volunteer members of the FPSB Board from territories including: Australia, Brazil, Canada, the People’s Republic of China, India, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.
