However, James Wilson, a director of mobile media company Bhive, which worked with AFS to develop its communication platform, says there’s one golden rule that anyone using social media has to understand: “It’s a terrible medium to sell from.”

“If someone goes to sell me off my mobile phone, I will turn off in a nanosecond,” Wilson says.

But financial planning firms must move with the times, he says, and recognise the fact that people have “become quite intolerant of anything that takes too long.

“We like information on our terms, where and when we want it,” he says.
