For the second year running, Professional Planner and fund research group Standard & Poor’s (S&P) have joined forces to recognise excellence in the Australian managed funds industry.  Today, we are pleased to announce the complete list of finalists in the 2010 S&P/Professional Planner Fund Awards.

The awards recognise outstanding achievement in 10 separate sectors, as well as an overall Fund Manager of the Year, and Product Distributor of the Year.

Two new sector have been added to the line-up for 2010: best structured product, and best separately managed account (SMA).

A director of fund services at S&P, Leanne Milton, says the list of finalists includes some new faces, and “a healthy mix of boutique and mainstream managers”.

The S&P Fund Awards are now in their seventh year in Australia. The methodology is based on a qualitative assessment of specific investment-management capabilities within a sector, rather than being based on past performance of individual funds.

In 2009 Macquarie edged out Equity TRustees, Pinnacle Investment Management and Zurich Investment Management to claim Product Distributor of the Year, while BlackTock Investment Management won the coveted Fund Manager of the Year award, beating Colonial First State MLC Investments and Vanguard to the title.

The 2010 awards will be announced at a business luncheon at The Ivy, Sydney, on Friday Oct. 29, 2010. For enquiries about the event please contact Laurence Jarvis at Conexus Financial on (02) 9227 5704 or via email at laurence.jarvis@conexusfinancial.com.au
