Russell Investments’ Australian chief executive officer Alan Schoenheimer has been promoted to lead the firm’s international business, based in London.
Reporting to John Schlifske, Russell’s global president and CEO, the role expands Schoenheimer’s current remit to include the firm’s Europe, Middle East and Africa operations.
Chris Corneil, managing director of Russell’s investor services group, will head up the Australian and New Zealand businesses, and will continue to report to Schoenheimer.
The moves are intended to more closely align the Australian business and Australian clients with the global business.
Corneil says the impact of the global financial crisis means investment markets will be irrevocably changed, necessitating a change of thinking for investors.
“The current environment is akin to the ‘fog of war’ – but I believe once we have more visibility the investing world will be different in 2009,” he says.
