The head of financial planning for Yellow Brick Road, Scott Walters, says claims that proposed changes to the structure of financial planning will make advice more affordable and accessible “are music to my ears”.
“That’s all about clients,” Walters says. “It’s all about making sure that Australians have access to, and can afford to get, the financial planning advice they need.
“Yes, there will be challenges going forward. Business structures will look different. Cost structures will look different – even remuneration methods may look different.
“But at the end of the day if that means more customers are able to fund themselves into retirement, to afford their own home and to live comfortably, that’s a great result.
In an interview on Professional Planner TV, Walters also discusses the planned changes to the structure of the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA), the challenges of becoming regarded as a profession, and why “the FPA conference is like chocolate”.
