The rapidly growing $290 million fixed-income boutique, Smarter Money Investments, (SMI) is pleased to announce that it has hired one of Australia’s top credit analysts and strategists, Andrew McLachlan, to boost its investment team. Andrew will be based in SMI’s Melbourne office and formally commence work on 25 May.

Andrew was the Credit Strategist at the $5.5 billion Australian fixed-income manager Vianova between 2008 and 2013 and its successor Brookline Partners (2014-2015) where he was responsible for all quantitative and qualitative credit analysis and valuation, as well as having input into macroeconomic strategy.

“I have over 15 years buy-side experience analysing Australian and indeed overseas credits from a bottom-up and top-down perspective and built and maintained the credit process at Perennial, Vianova and Brookline,” Mr McLachlan said.

SMI co-chief investment officer, Darren Harvey, said, “Andrew has been the top credit strategist at two multi-billion dollar fixed income managers—Perennial and then Vianova—for the last 15 years and will deepen SMI’s analytical capabilities in the Aussie cash and fixed-income spaces”.

“SMI’s active cash and higher income funds have grown to almost $300 million in assets with the active cash strategy recently securing a 5 star rating from Morningstar. Andrew will be the seventh member of SMI’s institutional investment team, which now includes two full-time portfolio managers and two full-time credit analysts plus three part-time credit and risk analysts,” Mr Harvey said.
