Goals based financial advice association to hold inaugural conference

Keynote speakers announced; new industry awards to be launched

SYDNEY 4 July 2017: Financial adviser industry body The Association of Goals Based Advice (AGBA) has announced its inaugural conference ‘Bringing it all Together’ and the launch of new industry awards to recognise best practice amongst advisers practicing a ‘goals based’ approach. AGBA was established in 2014 as a non-profit financial adviser-led association to represent advisers who were focused on delivering financial advice that helped clients achieve specific financial outcomes – or goals. To be held in Sydney in November 2017, AGBA’s first national conference aims to provide advisers with industry insights on the case for goals based advice and the framework for goals based investment portfolios in advice businesses. The conference is the first of its kind for the industry, bringing together practical knowledge and tools from advisers, dealer groups, institutions, asset consultants, researchers, industry commentators, fund managers, regulators, educators, administrators and other industry professionals that will help advisers implement goals based advice in their businesses. AGBA Chairman, Matthew Walker said the conference will deliver a program of leading, successful practitioners, providing clear and actionable steps to implement in a goals based advice business. “There are many ways for financial advisers to help their clients achieve their goals, and AGBA was founded to open up the conversation to include another perspective on how to provide goals-based advice and build investment solutions to meet those needs,” Mr Walker said. Keynote speaker line-up The two-day conference includes sessions with Thirdlink Founder and Managing Director, Chris Cuffe, on defining goals based investing; Andrew Inwood, Managing Director of Core Data on the latest investor research regarding the need for goals based advice; current investment insights from Bridgette Leckie, Chief Investment Officer of Koda Capital; and the case for change presented by Ian Knox, Managing Director of Paragem. Along with keynotes from industry experts, participants will garner key insights and action plans from a number of panel sessions, bringing together players across the investments and advice value chain who have successfully implemented goals based advice solutions. New industry awards announced Excellence in the implementation of goals based advice will be recognised at an awards ceremony hosted by adviser education group No More Practice. Awards will cover both adviser practitioners and product providers and will include adviser awards for the most innovative practice in implementing Goals Based Advice and rising stars. The awards will be judged by an independent panel of industry practitioners. Matthew Walker said AGBA was focused on helping financial planning practitioners learn from others in the industry and on finding the right options to suit their clients and broader business needs. “This is what advisers and investment professionals will garner from the conference, ‘Bringing It All Together’,” he said. The AGBA National Conference will be held on 8 – 9 November 2017 at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf, 32 Pirrama Road, Pyrmont in Sydney. Registrations are now open, click here to register.
