The SMSF Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Hogan as its new Head of Technical.
SMSF Association Managing Director/CEO Andrea Slattery says it’s an “extremely important role” in the organisation, so to get someone with the experience, reputation and industry knowledge of Peter Hogan is a real positive.
“Peter, currently National Manager – SMSF Advice, at MLC Technical, brings many years of experience in SMSFs to the organisation, having previously worked before MLC at Plaza Financial, Colonial First State Investments, Macquarie Bank and the ATO in key superannuation, investment and taxation roles, and now the Association has the opportunity to benefit from this varied and rich skill set built up over many years.
“The Association, as the leader in technical and advisory services in the financial services and superannuation industries, is committed to ensuring its members keep their competitive edge, and having a person of the calibre of Peter in this role is critical to this process.
“The Association recognises the search for excellence in the SMSF specialist space is a journey without an end, and as such we must continue to offer our members the best opportunity to achieve at all levels, whether it be regulatory, technical or professional.”
Peter Hogan, who graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Sydney University in 1983 and a Diploma of Financial Planning from Deakin University in 2002, says he is excited and honored to be appointed to this position.
“I have a long relationship with the SMSF Association, having served as a Director between 2004 and 2013, including the roles of Chairman and Vice Chairman.
“I understand the important role that the Association plays in both the SMSF sector and the broader superannuation industry as an advocate for professionalism and high educational standards, and I look forward to contributing in every way possible in my new role.
“Having spent much of my professional career in superannuation and financial services, I want to use my experience and skills to the benefit of our members and the wider SMSF sector.”
In his role as National Manager – SMSF Advice, which he held from 2010, Peter worked assiduously to improve the calibre of SMSF advice at that organisation.
“There are now 96 specialist SMSF advisors (SSAs) in the organisation, putting the MLC at the forefront of SMSF advice in the industry. It’s a legacy of which I am proud, and certainly one that will stand MLC in good stead as a provider of SMSF specialist advice and services,” he says.
