PIMCO is the winner of the Australian Morningstar Fixed Interest Fund Manager of the Year Award for the second consecutive year as it continues to demonstrate “exemplary resilience” in challenging market conditions and remains an “outstanding choice for fixed income investing.”
Morningstar Australia said: “PIMCO remains an outstanding choice for fixed income investing, continuing to demonstrate exemplary resilience in challenging market conditions. The firm’s peer-leading investment research, shrewd credit selection, and sound currency calls all show why the fund manager remains top of class and the worthy winner of the award for fixed income investing.”
Robert Mead, Managing Director and Head of Portfolio Management at PIMCO Australia, said: “It’s an honour to have PIMCO selected by Morningstar as best in class for fixed interest for the second consecutive year. This recognition reflects the focus, hard-work and deep pool of talent of PIMCO’s domestic and international fixed interest team.”
In determining the winners of the Morningstar Awards 2016, Morningstar takes into consideration a combination of qualitative research by its manager research analysts; risk-adjusted returns over the one-, three- and five-year periods; and performance in the 2015 calendar year. Morningstar said: “The objective is to screen for fund managers that have provided consistently strong returns and not just reward those with the most impressive one-year return that have otherwise struggled to impress.”
Adrian Stewart, Executive Vice President and Head of PIMCO Australia and New Zealand, said: “We are proud of our investment teams and the results they consistently deliver for our clients in Australia and globally.” He added: “With ongoing bouts of volatility, convergence to New Neutral economic growth rates and central bank policies diverging globally, it will be important to combine PIMCO’s global resources, robust investment process and focus on active management to guide investors to the best investment opportunities to meet their goals.”
As at March 2016, PIMCO’s Australian Bond Fund still remains the only Gold rated fund within the fixed income universe by Morningstar Australia. Morningstar said: “PIMCO Australian Bond continues to be our top-rated Australian bond strategy owing to the experienced team and its consistent, time-tested process.”
