Zurich Financial Services Australia (Zurich) has launched a new tablet app, designed to help financial advisers improve their customer engagement process.
The new Zurich Adviser Flipchart app is the first consumer-facing life insurance app launched in Australia, and is a response to research revealing a significant gap in consumers’ understanding of life insurance and other risk management mechanisms.
The 2014 whitepaper, ‘Australians and life insurance: misinformed, misinsured?’ (see attached) identified a deep lack of understanding amongst consumers around the different types of life insurance and their interaction with the NDIS, Centrelink and Workcover.
Zurich commissioned the app after recognising the pivotal role Financial Advisers can and do play in improving financial literacy.
The design of the app marries the interactive engagement benefits of mobile tablets with extensive research into effective learning styles.
The result is a rich multimedia experience which allows consumers to learn – at their own pace – about the concept of risk management, the various options available (including life insurance) and how those options relate to their own personal circumstances.
Mr Andy Marshall, Head of Sales Strategies and Research for Zurich’s Life and Investments business, said that technology has been designed to help close the financial literacy gap.
“Different learning styles respond to different modes of communication, and this is reflected in a design which will appeal equally to kinaesthetic, visual and auditory learners.
“By improving the extent to which customers understand the advice they are been given, they are more likely to appreciate the value of that advice and the value of the solutions recommended. In turn they are more likely to become an advocate for the power of expert, tailored advice,” he said.
Zurich has designed the app for maximum flexibility. In addition to working across all platforms including iOS and Android, the app can be customised to reflect the brand identity of the user.
“With just a few clicks, users can upload their own logo and colour scheme, giving it a more bespoke appearance,” said Mr Marshall.
The app was launched as part of Zurich’s March 2015 life insurance update, now in market.
