Dominick McCormick

Dominic McCormick has 40 years finance and investment experience. He commenced at AMP in 1985 in investment administration and later in performance analysis. After client and technical positions with MLC from 1988 to 1990, he moved to research roles in 1991, first at Pembroke Financial Planners and then Bridges Financial Services from 1993 where he was head of research from 1996 to 2001.   After a short consulting stint in 2001-2002, in late 2002 he co-founded and was chief investment officer at Select Asset Management, a specialist multi-asset manager with an absolute return and alternatives focus. Select was an innovator in offering real return diversified portfolios, a multi-asset alternatives portfolio, a fund investing in listed closed end funds globally, as well as providing access to specialist alternative managers including gold, managed futures, private equity, and hedge funds. Select was purchased by OneVue in late 2014. Dominic continued as CIO until 2016 before transitioning to a consulting role covering investment strategy and the wind-down of some Select funds.   Since 2018 Dominic’s consulting activities have covered investment committee roles, research for an responsible entity, asset consultant reviews and varied projects.   Through his career McCormick has been active in speaking on, and writing about, investments, particularly in challenging conventional wisdom, highlighting contrarian opportunities and identifying flawed and vulnerable investment offerings. In 2009 he helped uncover the Astarra/Trio Capital scandal, at the time the largest superannuation fraud in Australian history.   In 2025 he received the Contribution to the Australian Alternative Funds Industry Award.   Outside his consulting activities, Dominic continues to manage personal/family assets, consistent with investment principles and approaches developed over his career.
