Standard & Poor’s Fund Services, in association with Professional Planner magazine, has named Colonial First State Global Asset Management (Colonial First State) its 2010 Fund Manager of the Year. Macquarie Professional Series picked up the award for Product Distributor of the Year, for the second year in a row.The 2010 S&P Fund Awards were announced at a business lunch in Sydney earlier today.
The S&P Fund Awards are now in their seventh year in Australia. The methodology is based on a qualitative assessment of specific investment-management capabilities within a sector, rather than being based on past performance of individual funds.
Leanne Milton, director of Fund Services at S&P, says the managers recognised today are those that S&P Fund Services believes are “more likely to outperform their peers and investment objectives through the full investment cycle”.
“It is pleasing to see some familiar faces in some categories, as well as recognize a number of new investment capabilities,” Milton says.
“Profiles of the winners will appear in the December – January edition of Professional Planner magazine”
S&P considers Colonial First State to be an innovative manager, with the ability to bring well-constructed products to the Australian market. “Colonial First State continually strives to enhance its investment capabilities and product range as new investment opportunities and themes arise. The quality of Colonial First State’s offerings is clearly highlighted by the fund’s prominence as finalists in four of the sector awards categories,” Ms. Milton said.
On the Product Distributor of the Year, Milton says: “Macquarie Professional Series has provided Australian investors with access to managers and capabilities that may not have otherwise been available to them.”
“Furthermore, in our view, Macquarie Professional Series continues to provide quality fund and manager information to financial planners and investors in a professional and timely manner,” she says.
One of the two new sector awards added this year resulted in tie, with the inaugural Separately Managed Accounts award jointly shared between Dalton Nicol Reid and Ralton Asset Management. The other new sector award, for Structured Products, went to AXA Asia-Pacific Holdings.
