Ray Griffin and Peter Bobbin, founding trustees of the Future2 Foundation, cycled into Sydney last Friday afternoon completing the 1250km journey from Bourke to Sydney as part of the Wheel Classic fundraising event.

Susan Grice, manager of the Future2 Foundation, says crossing the finish line was an amazing achievement for all the cyclists who took up the challenge.

“Ray is the more experienced cyclist and has done lots of training but Peter, who frequently rides to the office from home everyday and back again, had little opportunity for further training and both completed the whole distance,” she says.

“They both made it and enjoyed the camaraderie.”

Members from the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and AMP Financial Planning also joined the cyclists for the last leg into Sydney’s Martin Place.

They were welcomed by the Lord Major of Sydney, Clover Moore, chief executive of the FPA, Mark Rantall and representatives of BTFG and Matrix Planning Solutions.

Grice says donations from the event have almost reached the $100,000 target.

“Our current tally is $71,500 but we haven’t done a final reconciliation as there are other amounts trickling in.”

She says next year’s Future2 Wheel Classic aims to recruit 12 cyclists for the event.

“The whole route is a big ask so we may well have others joining us for segments of the route, perhaps for a day or so.

“We’re already talking about next year and keen to fix some dates.”

The fundraiser is still accepting donations from the financial planning industry to go towards disadvantaged young Australians.
