The value of keeping an adviser voice in policy conversations

Advocating for financial advice often seems like a never-ending uphill battle, but the situation would be significantly worse if the profession didn’t have people willing to give it a voice.

In this episode of the Shape of Advice podcast, Professional Planner editor Chris Dastoor is joined by The Conexus Institute* executive director David Bell along with financial adviser and former Financial Planning Association chair Marisa Broome.

Broome, who sits on the institute’s advisory board to represent the advice profession, will discuss her contributions to the board, the dynamics between the different sector representatives, and why it’s worthwhile for advisers to participate in these discussions even if it feels like they might not feel heard.

Bell discusses how the institute came to fruition, its purpose and the outcomes it has delivered, having just celebrated its sixth anniversary.

A great episode Chris, Marissa and David. We have the united voice with the FAAA and massive appreciation for the efforts of Marissa in making this happen. It’s time to make sure we use that voice. It would be great to see Super Fund Boards recruit experienced Financial Advisers.
