Standard & Poor’s Fund Services, in association with Professional Planner, today announce the finalists in the 2009 Standard & Poor’s Fund Awards. The awards cover retail funds in 11 categories, covering the key asset classes as well as Fund Manager of the Year, Emerging Fund Manager of the Year and Product Distributor of the Year.
S&P has sifted through more than 8000 retail funds to identify those that offer retail investors superior investment management capabilities, and those the researcher considers to be in a position to succeed in the future.
It has assessed the asset management, administration, governance and compliance capabilities of all candidates.
Now in its sixth year, the S&P Fund Awards aim to identify and acknowledge outstanding quality in the Australian retail managed funds sector.
Director of fund research for S&P, Leanne Milton, says it has been a tough period for fund managers.
“At a time of challenging market conditions, we feel it is appropriate to acknowledge those funds which are, in S&P’s opinion, more likely to outperform as markets turn around,” Milton says.
“A key feature of Standard & Poor’s awards is that they differentiate between investment capabilities, which will assist investors and their advisers to identify the specific capability that is being recognised.”
The award winners in each sector will be announced in Sydney on October 30. Professional Planner will publish a full list of the winners in the November – December edition of the magazine, along with profiles, interviews and a detailed explanation of the S&P methodology.
