In 2003 it looked like the days of the government bond market had come to an end. The federal government had reduced outstanding debt to almost zero. The plan was to eliminate the debt which would have meant the death of the government bond market. Voices within the finance industry lobbied the government to keep the bond market alive.
We’re not talking about reducing your emissions, but rather trying to boost your returns. With the All Ordinaries index having fallen 48 per cent (and that includes a 15 per cent rally since early March), some investors are considering the alternatives for their investment dollars. How do hybrid securities measure up?
Don’t you hate those people who delight when everyone else is miserable? When others see only clouds, contrarian investors are focussed on the silver lining. It is during dark times like these that contrarian investors are on the prowl for investment opportunities that hopefully will see them outperform in the years ahead.
The superannuation regime which has been operative since 1 July 2007 is designed to cap the level of annual contribution to a fund in respect of a member at –
>concessional $50,000 (subject to the five year $100,000 transitional rule for persons at least 50 years of age);
>non-concessional $150,000 (subject to the three year “averaging” rule).
